Draft Tube
- Draft Tubes - long down-filled segments inside the sleeping bag (and sometime outside) used to minimize warmth leaking through the zip. The number of draft tubes can vary from one (for summer sleeping bags) to four (for extreme cold sleeping bags). It is important that the number of draft tubes and their size matches the sleeping bag temperature rating.
Eiderdown
- One of the advantages of eiderdown compared to goose down - is eiderdown ability to immediately return to its former volume after compression. Another quality is that the eiderdown plumbs are very lightweight and become uniquely hooked to each other. This prevents the down from migrating inside the garment that it is filled with.

Hood
- The choice of hood is the matter of personal preferences. Warmer sleeping bags usually use sculptured hoods that come snug and close around head. Lightweight and summer sleeping bags often use flat hoods. In cold temperatures your breath can cause ice to form around the nose opening, which may soak into the hood as it melts. On a long trip accumulation of moisture in the hood can be serious issue as when wet down looses many of its insulating properties. On longer trips we recommend to bring additional insulation for your head and take opportunities to dry the hood on the sun before you compress the bag.

Zips
- Zip adds considerable versatility to a bag as it allows ventilation in warm weather and makes getting in and out much easier. Form the other side zip adds weight and requires draft tubes to prevent warmth leaking through the zip. Our feet are the most critical area for heat saving along the zip. Shorter zips that ends before the feet area provide a good compromise as you should still be able to ventilate the bag, easily get in and out, zipping right and left bags together; and at the same time keep feet warm and save weight compared to full-length zips. Two-way YKK zips became a standard for high quality sleeping bags.
